Six WA rules worth knowing.
A new traffic notice, a court fine and an overdue FER matter are at different stages. Match the instructions to the document in hand.
Check the issue date.
Transport WA explains traffic infringements issued after 7 October 2024. Its page directs older traffic infringements to WA Police information.
Use the date on the notice.
WA infringement guidance describes a 28-day response period. For a court election, Transport WA says to advise Infringement Services before the payment due date printed on the notice.
Choose the path first.
After full payment or the first direct debit instalment, Transport WA says you can no longer seek its review, identify another driver or elect court.
Nominate accurately.
For post-7 October 2024 traffic notices, use DoTDirect or the Driver Identification Statement. A sold vehicle needs buyer details and sale date; a stolen vehicle needs its police incident number.
Plans depend on the stage.
Transport WA offers individuals a direct debit instalment arrangement or one payment extension. FER may approve a Time to Pay Order after registration.
Check before driving.
FER nonpayment can lead to licence suspension. A payment or application does not itself prove a suspension has ended; confirm the current status with the official service.
